Singer/Musician Needed for Awareness Event

Imago Dei's Global Advocacy Group meets monthly to generate awareness, concern and advocacy for social justice issues around the globe. The group's focus is on human trafficking, particularly women and children trapped in sexual slavery. The group will be holding an awareness event on the evening of February 21st at Urban Grind, and are looking for a singer or musician to play between a short film showing and the presenter speaking on the issue.

The film being shown is "Fields of Mudan"

If you've seen the film or would like to, and are interested in playing a song at this event, please email Tiffany George at tifanona@gmail.com.

Synopsis:
When Mudan, a frightened, young Asian girl, is forced into modern day slavery by the brutal child brothel owner, Madam Zhao, the only solace she finds is through the memory of her Mother and the promise that she would one day find Mudan and take her away to America: the place where dreams come true. Yet despite her hostile surroundings, Mudan finds sympathy, compassion, and friendship in an unexpected brothel girl, Faye. Through each other, they find the courage and the hope to live thier lives as innocent, ordinary little girls. But even the bonds of friendship cannot stop the bleak future that awaits them as their time of innocence runs out.

The Portland Round

The Portland Round is a non-profit, volunteer powered "arts experience". 3 songwriters share the stage with slam poets & live painters. It's about community, inspiration and change for the artist and the audience. The Portland Round begins Saturday February 2, continuing quarterly with different musicians, painters and poets each event. The event also includes a community meal for all those who are volunteering and performing. The organisers are looking for willing volunteers who could help with set up, tear down, tickets, greeting and food preparation. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved with the local arts scene here in Portland and help foster community and integration among artists and musicians in our city.

If you’re interested in getting involved check out their my space page (http://www.myspace.com/theportlandround ) or The Round website (www.theround.org) or email Jan at jan@imagodeicommunity.com
